Short Description of Your Novel
A young, idealisting newly minted lawyer accepts the position of academic dean in a for-profit business school in New York City in the late 1980s knowing almost nothing about the industry but committed to making a difference in the lives of his students and faculty. What follows is effectively a post-doctoral course on navigating and learning to effectively manipulate the underbelly of higher education through hard work and entrepreneurial leadership that ultimately bring him unparalleled professional success and painful personal failure. The protagonist's brief, bittersweet journey that will soon lead to a long, successful career in traditional higher education as both a professor and administrator will teach him vital lessons about higher education, principled leadership, and most importantly about himself. The narrative is fiction, but the humor, angst, situations and underlying issues are all too real.
Please give a short Author's Bio (please limit to 250 words)
At present I am the Cypres Distinguished Professor in Legal Studies in Business at Hofstra University's Frank G. Zarb School of Business. My professional writing has mostly involved non-fiction (eight textbooks, five trade books and more thyan a dozen recent scholarly articles on law and ethics published in peer-reviewed journals and law reviews). But I have also written poetry, fiction and non fiction throughout most of my life. I am a lawyer by training and have been licensed in New York for more than 30 years, although I do not currently practice law. Throughout most of my adult life I have been privileged to serve as a professor in business departments in urban, suburban and rural colleges and universities and have also served as an academic dean and as the dean of business at two institutions in the past, in addition to other administrative postings. I have written poetry and fiction since my early teens mostly for myself, though some of it was published occasionally in various school publications and in some literary magazines in the colleges and universities I served. I've published 10 books through traditional publishers (McFarland, Irwin, McGraw-Hill, Prentice Hall and Textbook Media Press) and also decided to experiment with the indie route since 2011, publishing a book of poems, three short story collections and two general reference books on intellectual property.
