Short Description of Your Novel
"A House in the Bosque" Stefan Kershoff was an Economics Professor at the University of New Mexico, but his passion was the history of racism, eugenics, forced sterilization, and the horrendous Final Solution…the civilized world’s ugly past. Discussing these subjects casually, but fervidly, one afternoon with Lucinda, one of his favorite students, he was alarmed to discover that she was involved with a group that was smuggling immigrants into the United States from Mexico. Young idealistic Hispanics, she and her husband, Leonard, had allowed themselves to become innocently drawn into that dangerous enterprise, believing only that they were helping people find a better life. It was mid summer of 1986, and the country was embroiled in a bitter controversy surrounding illegal immigration. While Washington was debating legislation that would grant amnesty to an estimated three and-a-half million shadowy “illegals,” anti-Hispanic and “immigration reform” groups were sprouting up in record numbers. Against this volatile backdrop, “Mickey” McAllister was setting into motion his audacious plan to smuggle large numbers of “wetbacks” across the border from Ciudad Juarez into rural New Mexico. It was a clever, well-orchestrated scheme that would turn into a harrowing conflict between community and family members, social activists, and murderous radical elements. He recruited Leonard, Lucy, and others to assist in the nefarious enterprise. Mickey and his team were going to learn a lot about basic human values - and love.
