Synopsis: An impressively crafted suspense thriller of a novel, "Bullets and Bandages" by Robert J. Saniscalchi was inspired by the true stories of a US Army Field Medic, Vietnam 68-69. Through those stories, Rob was given the unique war based insights that he seamless wove into his narrative driven story.

It is interesting to note that parts of Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brothers" derives Saniscalchi's own experiences, and that time period in our history of conflict in Vietnam. The trials and victories of Rob and his comrades pull the reader into a world of survival through willpower, tenacity, and wit.

"Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brothers" is ultimately a story of love, faith, friendship and humanity in a time of war and deals with what was it like for our military men as they fought together to survive in the jungles of Vietnam.

Critique: The kind of riveting read that will linger in the mind and memory long after the novel itself has been finished and set back upon the shelf, "Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brothers" is an especially and unreservedly recommended addition to community library General Fiction collections. It should be noted for personal reading lists that "Bullets and Bandages: Bond of Brothers" is also readily available in an inexpensive digital book format (Kindle, $0.99). Author's Site     Details Goodreads

Butterfly Lake and happy reader reviews

Looking for that weekend thriller, a cozy read to wrap your head around and escape? Butterfly Lake is the story for you!

The talk and the story.

Butterfly Lake, a Rob Marrino thriller  Robert J. Saniscalchi (Goodreads Author) Dianne's review 4-Stars

"BUTTERFLY LAKE, by Robert J. Saniscalchi is another great action-thriller that no only showcases a parent's worst nightmare, but the strength and trust of two warriors to save the day against all odds. Dialogue that feels real, a family in crisis and one father doing what we all wish we could do to save his child. But at what cost to everyone involved?"

Matt McAvoy's review 4-Stars Mar 09, 2020

"Butterfly Lake is a good, inoffensive yet gripping, quality thriller, and it will keep you engrossed for the entirety of its relatively short word count; you could very easily read this book in one day or evening, and a very entertaining evening it will be, too. Whether it is action you like, drama, decent-natured people rallying to stop really bad guys, or you just want to spend a few hours imagining the wonder of the North American countryside, I'm certain you can find something in Butterfly Lake which you'll enjoy, and I would therefore not see any reason not to recommend it to pretty much anybody. A good book, and I enjoyed reading it a great deal."

Bullets and Bandages: bond of brothers

The first time I heard my brother Pat’s war stories, we were in his truck, heading north for the hunting cabin. I sat there in awe, listening and feeling very proud of him. It had taken years before he could talk about it, and I thought that maybe he had needed those years, to let the pain of some of those memories fade. I never realized before just how close I had come to losing him. I thanked God, for he must have been watching over my brother. When he told of more and more of his adventures, I imagined those experiences; visions of jungles, combat, survival and death flashed through my mind. After listening to those stories, I found myself thinking about the war often. What if it were me out there, roaming around the jungles of Vietnam? Could I have survived the war?

The things we do for love.

Robert J. Saniscalchi’s MY LIFE FOR HER starts out like a gentle rain that soon becomes a thunderous deluge of action, adventure and suspense as two men risk everything to bring one mother home to her children.

Great story-telling by this author creates a riveting tale of bravery and daring. Marrino feels like a true flesh and blood man, his past behind him, but his skills forever imbedded. I loved the counter-point that Tex gave to Marrino’s seriousness, a deadly weapon buried deep within a bit of a showy, but loyal friend and brother.

Wonderful reading, real heroes and action, action, action. Highly recommended!

I received a complimentary copy from Robert J. Saniscalchi! This is my honest and voluntary review.

Kat's review
May 14, 2019 it was amazing

Rob Marrino, the highly decorated ex-army veteran, is happy to be working as a small-town cop after returning from the Vietnam war. A major drug bust throws him in the path of a dangerous Columbian drug cartel. Rob turns to his friend from his Vietnam days, Richard Larson aka Tex, a retired sergeant with the First Marines. Wary of bullets and violence, Rob knows the only way to take down the bad guys is to use their collective combat skills.

Rob is the main protagonist, but it’s Tex who steals the show. Saniscalchi expertly provides him a brusque, confident persona. Tex’s clever analytical mind under duress will delight readers. Saniscalchi neatly weaves a deceptively simple plot into a fast-paced action thriller and delivers a tense, satisfying finale. A delight to read!

‘Courage is fear holding on a minute longer.’ General George S. Patton

New Jersey born author Robert Saniscalchi returns to his 2010 debut novel with editorial enhancement by Autumn Conley and portions of the book embellished for the progress of the story. He subsequently published BULLETS AND BANDAGES (inspired by his older brother who was a field medic Vietnam 68-69) and FREEEDOM’S LIGHT (addressing the wars in Afghanistan). Now MY LIFE FOR HER is placed before readers as a more polished novel that reflects the impact of the Vietnam War and the interaction of a veteran as a policeman fighting the drug cartels. Robert lives in both Pennsylvania and Florida.

Robert opens this story of Vietnam War veteran medic who has returned home to Pikeville and has become a police officer. The mood Robert establishes is sensitive and reflective: The setting is well-established Americana, and then the story takes flight.

Many aspects of the story seem tied to fact – Pikeville is in New Jersey, Rob is a veteran medic like Robert’s brother – and that is one reason the theme feels true. But  this reader found the story intense and involving and a fine speedy read. Will we ever reach a period when previous wars do not permanently impact both veterans and their families as in PTSD et al? Likely not until wars go away. We go on.

My Life For Her (enhanced edition)

Rob, meanwhile, loved to stroll along the sand dunes with Beth Anne, especially when they made their way to their own little spot, their own private picnic paradise on the beach. This year, though, there were no sandy strolls. This year, it was all about getting back to normal after the emotional rollercoaster, the nightmare the family had experienced. It was a nice warm late summer day, Rob tried to put it all in perspective, tried to think about the good things in his life. As the doctor wisely advised, he needed to “put the past to bed.” The sky was clear blue, with a few puffy, white clouds floating by in the light breeze. What a simple pleasure it was for him to hear the birds chirping and to watch the squirrels nibble acorns while they scurried around the big oak trees. Some of the summer flowers were still in bloom, and the earthy smell of fresh-cut grass wafted through the air. The warm sunshine felt good as Rob reflected on his life since he left the U.S. Army and bought the M

And that ends the shameless promotion part of our program. On to the book recommendations!

As some of you may know I review books on my blog from time to time, so I'm sharing some of my finds this month around the World Wide Web.

Mysteries:

The Sam Harper Series:

-Silenced Cry by Marta Stephens

-The Devil Can Wait by Marta Stephens

These two books are are excellent police procedures.

-Avenging Angel: A Shannon Wallace Mystery by Kim Smith

I'm still reading this one, but it has been a delight so far. The author has a second book in this series coming out soon and has written two other books that have gotten rave reviews.

Paranormal:

-Haunted Marietta by Rhetta Akamatsu

A non-fiction history book, that mixes in tales of ghosts. From my review- "This book is one part history lesson, one part ghost story and one part paranormal primer, stirred into a delightfully entertaining read."

Here are two from my want-to-read list:-Thunder and Blood by Stacey Voss

Sisters, vampires and portals to another world.

-Angel Of Death: Book One of the Chosen by Karen Dales

"The Vampires of London are being murdered and only the Angel of Death can save them."

YA Fantasy:

-The Kirin Trilogy by James Priest

I reviewed the first two books in this series; very charming.

-Goneaway: Book I Into the Land by Jeffery B. Allen.

An excellent book for young, and old, adults.
